Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) is considered the gold standard for treating OCD. I have completed hours of training of ERP and engage in weekly consultation groups to help me provide the most clinically sound treatment to my OCD patients.
1
What is ERP and how does it work?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a type of therapy that helps people face their fears in a safe, supportive way. In ERP, you gradually and intentionally confront situations, thoughts, or feelings that trigger anxiety, while resisting the urge to do the usual behaviors (called compulsions) that you use to feel better. Over time, this helps your brain learn that these triggers aren’t actually dangerous, and your anxiety naturally decreases. The goal is to help you feel more in control and reduce the power that anxiety and compulsions have over your life.
2
What will a typical session look like?
A typical ERP session is a collaborative and supportive experience where we work together to create a plan that feels challenging but manageable. We’ll identify specific fears or triggers, and you’ll practice facing them gradually, starting with situations that feel less overwhelming. During the session, I’ll guide you in staying with the anxiety without doing the usual rituals or avoidance behaviors, helping you notice that the distress fades on its own. We’ll reflect on how it went, and you’ll leave with clear steps to practice between sessions to keep building your confidence.
Subtypes that I work with:
*Contamination OCD
*Existential OCD
*Relationship OCD
*Postpartum/Perinatal OCD
*"Just Right" OCD
*Perfectionism OCD
*Health Related OCD
If you are unsure of what your subtype is, you can still schedule a consultation with me to discuss your symptoms and see if I am the right fit for you.

How many sessions will I need?
ERP typically involves 90-minute sessions that take place twice a week, especially at the start of treatment, so we have enough time to work through exposures in a meaningful way. The number of sessions can vary, but many people begin to see progress within 12 to 20 sessions, depending on their needs and goals. A key part of success with ERP is practicing exposures between sessions as homework, because that’s where your brain learns that the anxiety will pass without needing to rely on compulsions. The more you practice both in and out of session, the faster you’ll build confidence and reduce the power anxiety has over your life.
*Cost for one 90 minute session a week is $300.
Paying with insurance
**Please note that for clients using insurance, the length of sessions will be 55 mins due to insurance constraints. Clients that do one 55 minute session a week may notice that it takes longer to see results. Doing exposures daily on your own will be critical to seeing results as quickly as possible.

Do you provide ERP intensives?
Yes. If you are looking to see results as quickly as possible and would like to do an intensive, there are several options for you to choose from.
-
Option 1:
3-hour block (or 2 sessions a week) Rate $600
-
Option 2:
For full-day (4–6 hours with breaks) Rates can range from $800-$1200 (sessions can be split into 3- 4 sessions a week)
-
Option 3: Adding in 30 minute phone check-ins
Rate $50
This option is available for those that may want an additional weekly phone check-in to discuss how exposures are going and troubleshoot any barriers to completing exposures.
Using Insurance for Intensives
If you would like to do an intensive and use your insurance, you would need to contact your insurance and discuss if this is an option for you. Please note that if using insurance, you cannot do a full 3 hour block or full day option, as your sessions will have to be split up in to several sessions a week. For example a 3 hour block becomes three separate 55 minute sessions per week and they cannot be held on the same day. Please discuss with your insurance provider.

Can I use my session to discuss other things besides doing ERP?
We can use the first 10 minutes of your session to discuss your week, however, if you feel you need more time to discuss other topics, I will recommend that you book an additional session for the week to discuss whatever else may be occupying your mind. The reason for this is because ERP is meant to be intensive and focused. It is a therapist driven modality and is meant to help you see results if we adhere to the model. Derailing from the model can create therapy interfering behaviors, which can lead to a client feeling as though ERP is not working, and increase feelings of hopelessness, frustration, and anxiety.
My regular talk therapy cash rate is $185 for 50 minutes.
